On August 11^th, the 11th Edition of the China National Sommelier Competition was held at the Garden Hotel in Shanghai with great success! Roussillon, as the first main sponsor of the China Sommelier Competition, is devoted to bringing more experience and information on this big annual event!

The China National Sommelier Competition is sponsored by theAsian Wine Institute and theRoussillon Wines Council, and hosted by Tommy LAM. It is devoted to comprehensively improving the professional knowledge and service level of Chinese sommeliers, encouraging more young staff to devote themselves to the sommelier industry, and constantly expanding the popularity and influence of sommeliers. This partnership has been ongoing for many years, with ever better transmission of knowledge to an ever more receptive pool of candidates, both growing in number and quality. This is a testament to the hard work of both the Asian Wine Institute and the Roussillon Wines Council.

In order to celebrate the top three winners, the Roussillon Wines Councilpresented three excellent sommeliers with a Chateau Les Pins Rouge 2014 1.5L and a set of elegant collar cases with the symbol of Roussillon Wines Council.

In addition, in the 11th year of the competition, there are still a record number of applicants taking part. Congratulations to the above award-winning sommeliers. Another good news is that the Special Roussillon Prize Competition, organised every year, was wonby Cassie HU.

“Roussillon Prize”, is an award given by the Roussillon Wine Councilfor excellent sommeliers who win a visitto Roussillon the following year. The winner must first demonstrate his rich knowledge and understanding of the region and its wines. We hope that this trip will bring our sommelier winner with an even better understanding of this region “blessed by the gods.”

The competition lasted three hours in total, and the three finalists went through various stages to present to the judges and the audience an amazing performance of skills and a deep understanding of wine.

We are looking forward to the birth of more and more excellent sommeliers in China. Meanwhile, we will be looking forward to the 2020 regional tour of Roussillon with Cassie Hu and the winners of the Young Sommelier Competition.
